Programs learn under supervision of a user who knows what the output is supposed to look like. In supervised learning a program is told to copy the actions of the programmer, and the supervisor monitors the program to provide immediate feedback on whether an action was good or bad, right or wrong. For example, the program may monitor how a supervisor has sorted coloured balls into coloured buckets to learn exactly how it is supposed to sort the balls.
